Getting Organized - 5 Tips for Organization Preparation January 05 2015, 0 Comments

5 Tips for Organization Preparation - Pezzo Bello Interiors Clutter and mess can easily sneak up on all of us, so it's no wonder getting organized is the second most popular new year's resolution. Many of us have at least a few rooms we wish were more organized. Maybe it's your kitchen, your office, a kid's room or your whole house. Whatever room(s) you are interested in organizing, here are a few tips that work for every room in your house.
  1. List Your Goals This may be on paper or in your head, but know what your goal is before you step into the room. This will allow you to focus on the task and, in turn, be more efficient.
  2. Room By Room Don't attempt to conquer your whole house in one day. Take it one room at a time and focus all of your energy on that room. It may take longer than a few days, but you will be much happier with the results if you take your time and make sure each room is done sufficiently.
  3. Go Through EVERYTHING This is one of the main reasons for #2. Plan to go through everything, this way you know you have completely organized a room and not just a portion. When you are done with a whole room there will not be one drawer or area that continually bugs you later. Everything will have a place and it will make your day-to-day life much easier.
  4. Trash Bags/Boxes Bring in at least two trash bags and even possibly a few boxes. One bag will be for trash, the other for donation. While you are going through everything toss things into their respective bags/boxes so there is less chance of just tossing it back in the clutter. The rule of thumb for getting rid of an item is: if you haven't used it in a over a year - toss it. This may be harder in certain rooms, in fact you may want a plastic container to keep anything you don't need in a room, but would like to keep. This would include, mementos, photos, etc. - things to which you may be sentimentally attached. When you are done, close up your bags/boxes and bring them to the trash and donation center. You'll feel so much lighter after this step! It's rejuvenating!
  5. Take Your Time If you really focus and do not rush through your organization, you will be happier later. Like anything in life, haste makes waste. If you are going to go through the task of organizing, do it the best you can, so you won't have to do it again soon. Taking your time will also allow you to really think about the best way to organize your rooms. Make sure what you choose to do makes sense for the item's everyday use. You wouldn't put your pots and pans above the refrigerator, even if that cabinet was the perfect size. It wouldn't make sense for you to climb up to get a pot down every day. Instead, you would place them in an easily accessible cabinet or drawer. Think all of your placements through thoroughly so it will make your life easier, not harder.
